Holiday Hymns at The Araneta Center


It’s the most wonderful time of the year again and The Araneta Center is inviting everyone to join the choral competition.

General Guidelines:
  • The competition is open to all choral groups whose members are least 14 years old. The chorale shall be composed of fifteen (15) to twenty five (25) members including the choir conductor and percussionist. The choir conductor and percussionist may be professional.
  • A member can only join one (1) participating group.
  • Each choir is required to sing 3 pieces.
  • All chosen songs will be sung in acapella.
  • The Official Application Form can be downloaded from the Araneta Center website (www.aranetacenter.net) or Facebook.com / The Araneta Center. It is also available in Ali Mall & Gateway Mall concierge.
  • To qualify, the choral group must submit their complete application to the concierge of Ali Mall, Gateway Mall or at the ACI Marketing Department (address: 9th flr. Marketing Dept Aurora Tower, Quezon City) from Nov 24 until Dec 21, 2012.
Please submit the application form with the following requirements:
▪   Complete list of songs to be performed at the contest.
List must be limited to three (3) songs (2 Christmas songs & 1 song of your choice). Originally composed songs are welcome.  No “electronic instrument or recording accompaniment” will be allowed.
▪    Official list of the members of the choral group, conductor and percussionist.
Member information as provided in the ff IDs: (passport; birth certificate, driver’ license, SSS or GSIS ID, postal ID, school or company ID)
  • Qualified choral group applicants will be notified through email, phone call & SMS to compete during actual competition dates in the
    following venues and schedules:

  • The order of performance will be determined by drawing of lots on the day of their performance.
  • Each choral group will be given a maximum of 12 minutes total performance time.
  • Song rendition or medley should not exceed five (5) minutes.
  • The group is responsible for bringing their own musical instruments.
  • Winning group is required to sing 3 songs after the announcement of winners
  • Costumes are highly encouraged to add up to the total performance; however, it must be decent and proper for the performance. 
The COMPETITION COMMITTEE deserves the right not to allow the performance of a group due to costume technicalities.

Criteria for Judging

Musical Rendition (Voice Quality, Blending & Balance, Choreography) ……………………   45 %
Presentation (Stage Presence, Synchronization and Movements) ………………………….    35 %
Costume & Props ……………………………………………………………………………  10 %
Audience Impact    ………………………………………………………………………         10 %

  • The jury will be composed of active members of the Philippine Choral Directors Association (PCDA) and persons with extensive musical background.
  • In the event a Finalist fails to participate in the technical rehearsal for the Grand Finals, the next highest-ranked choral group shall assume the slot in the Final Competition.
  • The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
Tie – Breaker
  • In the event of a tie for any position, the tie will be broken by using the musical rendition scores received by the group. If the vocal scores do not break the tie, the presentation scores will be the next tie breaker. If this still does not break a tie, the panel of judges will be asked to make the decision.
  • All participating groups will each receive a Certificate of Participation.
Prizes & Special Awards:

All participating choir groups shall each receive a certificate of participation and freebies.
